Overall the summer of 2013 was not too bad!
Beach: We did not rent a shore house this year and it was really missed! But we did make it down to Spring Lake and Pt. Pleasant for 3 separate day trips which were still a hit with the kids.
Camp: Ava spent 4 weeks with Terry at NFS and 1 week at the NAC for Gymnastics camp (which she loved!). Unfortunately her art camp at the end of the summer was cancelled which made for a long last few weeks of the summer. Cameron went to the 1/2 day camps at the NAC for 3 weeks and really enjoyed it. In August I called Coach Duda to see if he was offering any golf camps for little guys because after playing probably 100 rounds of mini golf at the pool Cameron became a putting pro. Mike's camps were for boys 5+, but he said he would take Cameron for 2 hours (camp was 4 hours) to see how he did. Cam loved it, so was able to return 2 weeks later for another round of camp and stay for 3 hours.
He continues to love golf and now goes with daddy to the driving range on weekends!
Pool: The pool got off to a rough start this summer. At the Newtown Swim Club Ava was in heaven, as always, but Cameron refused to get in or even WEAR his swimsuit to the pool. After a week or two he discovered the mini golf and other great activities there so he was finally occupied while Ava swam. By mid July Ed got him IN the pool, he had a blast, and realized swimming wasn't so bad. As long as the weather was hot, he would get in.
Summer at the pool this year was really great, we went in the evenings, on weekends, I even sat between the pool and mini golf course, SAT DOWN, and watched the kids play. The Newtown Swim Club will be SO missed next year.
Poconos: Taking a mini vacation to the Poconos at the end of the summer was a great get-away. 3 nights, 4 days, but perfect weather and a nice break in the routine before school started. The kids loved the lake and beach, they had so much fun hiking and exploring.
This is a 'must' trip again next summer, spending a week here would be awesome because there was just so much to do.
Our balance of camps and time at the pool made this summer break much more enjoyable then previous years. I was actually sad (just a little) to see summer go this year.
